Carnegie Mellon Spring Carnival – Midway (Booth)

In Mid-April, Carnegie Mellon students celebrating the academic year full of hard work by working even harder, then having a huge party (called Carnival). One part of that hard work is the Buggy Race, which I was lucky enough to go to on Carnival Friday.  Part two is “Booth” where different organizations build a structure to house a carnival game.  There is a different theme for Booth each year, this year’s theme being “History with a Twist,” and the Booths are judged in different categories.    Organizations can start building the Booth in their garage, and all Booths are moved on to Midway (called “Move-On” on the Friday before Carnival).…

Carnegie Mellon Spring Carnival – Buggy Race

Each spring, thousands of nerds arrive in Pittsburgh for Spring Carnival at Carnegie Mellon University.  Being one of those nerds (and an alumnae), the event has a special place in my heart. Pittsburgh weather for the event is totally unpredictable.  This morning, it was sunny and 75F on campus, while right now it is cloudy with thunderstorms.  I hope to make it to Carnival Midway later tonight if it is open to see the Booths this year. J.Cosentino Custom Tailors – Pittsburgh Photography

Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to a dress fitting with my friend, and future May 2010 bride, Laura.  I don’t think I’ve ever been to a dress fitting, besides my own, so this was very special.  Of course, since it IS a wedding dress, I can’t post a preview of how she looked, but you’ll see soon enough as her wedding is coming up on May 8th. Her tailor is J Cosentino Custom Tailors located in the office suites of the Omni William Penn Hotel, and has been for the last 42 years.  She found him through a google search for a tailor close to her downtown office,…

    Smitten Kitchen, 10 ways

It’s March, and wedding season is slowly ramping up in Pittsburgh.  I’m having a great time in this slow time as I’m sure to be swimming (happily) in photographs in no time at all.  Until then, time to crush more of that 20 lists of 10 in 2010. This one, I just completed.  “Cook 10 recipes from the Smitten Kitchen blog.”  This was not hard to do since I’m a big Smitten Kitchen fan and I love to cook.  The SK author, Deb,  (we affectionately refer to her by name in my circles) is a food lover and avid photographer. While I enjoy reading her stories and checking out her…

    Playing in the Woods

Last weekend, I spent a sunny Saturday with my mom (Denise) and my husband (Ryan) in Ohiopyle, PA.  The last time I was here, I was photographing an engagement session for Sara and Nigel.  I’m lucky enough to be photographing two weddings this season at this beautiful location.  For now, some photos in springtime…. One of my absolute favorite places at Ohiopyle is the Cucumber Falls area. Here is mom, thinking about Nicki and Dad who have been working in Texas for a month.  She misses them. Mom is a photographer too!  Good job, Mom (even using back-button focusing)!!! Photo by Ryan Photo by Randi.  My mom is so beautiful.…
