Thousands of people travel to see Phil. We saw a ton of  people who had tailgated before the event including some guys wearing “Occupy Punxsutawney” tshirts and these folks buying hot dogs at 5am.

People arrive throughout the morning, taking a 1.5 mile bus ride from designated parking areas to Gobbler’s Knob.
“I got you, Babe” by Sonny and Cher was playing from the radio you see in the photo. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Groundhog Day,” you’d probably chuckle like I did.

My first time seeing fireworks at 6:30am.

Later, I saw a journalist interviewing this man about his hat.

At this moment, members of the Inner Circle of The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club are listening to Phil’s prediction. Only one of the gentlemen is holding a special walking cane that allows him to hear Phil say if he’s seen his shadow.

Phil’s prediction was for “Six more weeks of winter.” Since we really haven’t had much winter weather in Pittsburgh this year, I’d call this “the first six weeks of winter.” Happy Groundhog Day!

I’ve been working on some personal photo projects this winter. Making these instant prints is fun, but the results not great. Technical difficulties like these are the reason that these SX-70 projects will remain personal and not for clients.

This year, Ryan and I spent our Christmas holiday visiting his family in Minnesota. While winter holidays are usually frozen, this one was quiet warm and there wasn’t any snow on the ground.We spent a lot of time at Ryan’s parents home gathered around the kitchen table, playing games and visiting with family.

MMMMMM cookies. I love to bake cookies. One of my favorite parts of baking is learning old family recipes from the pros that have made them for so many years. Pierogi from my paternal Grandma (and my dad), ladylocks from Aunt Carol, and now Cold Dough Cakes from my maternal Grandma. From my internet research, these cookies are known by many names, but I know them as the little rolled cookies with apricot or walnut filling. There is technique in the dough preparation and in the cookie formation–family secrets that aren’t found in a cook book, but made only by closely studying the experts.
