Kate and Tom’s Wedding at Heinz Chapel and The LeMont
Whenever one of my clients is planning a winter wedding, I want to know why. Maybe, like Kate, you prefer cold weather and snuggling up with cozy clothes. Maybe you also enjoy beautiful white snow and warm mittens. And for a wedding, there is an extra kind of sophistication brought to the event by appropriately warm wedding attire and formal coats. But–traveling can be a challenge, there might be a blizzard where half of your guests live, your shipment of wedding flowers might be frozen, or in Kate and Tom‘s case, all three! Luckily, Kate and Tom have great families. Kate’s Pittsburgh-based family worked to overcome a cold weather, frozen…

Marisa and Paul’s Wedding at the Heinz History Center
So many weddings have a really great reception, but I realized how important it was for Marisa and Paul to have a really really great reception when they repeatedly said “We are so excited to celebrate!” During our last planning call I asked “Is there anything else I should know about your wedding?” To which Paul replied “Yes, at the reception we will probably do a human pyramid and a hoedown. And a dance-through line and a conga line.” “Wow,” I said “that is a lot of partying to get through in one night!” With one hour remaining in the wedding reception, Paul asked me “On a scale of one…

Maria and Nathan’s Wedding at Phipps Conservatory
Sometimes, families are simply spectators at weddings, watching what is happening to the bride and groom. Maria and Nathan both have families that are an exception to that generalization. All of their siblings were included in their bridal party, Nathan’s father was his best man, Maria’s sisters gave a great toast to the newlyweds, and everyone concentrated their attention on Maria and Nathan. Maria’s sister, Gina is a talented opera singer who sang during the church and the reception. During his toast, Nathan’s father called Maria a “Bride-chilla” because she was nothing like a crazed Bridezilla. Nathan’s co-Best Man delivered an Anchorman-style flute solo prior to giving his toast. Not that Maria and Nathan asked…

Megan and Tim’s Wedding at St Stanislaus and Heinz History Center
Before every wedding, I ask my clients what they are most excited for on the wedding day. The thing that I least like to hear is “for it to be over” and the thing hear the most is “for it to be HERE!” Tim was most excited for the ceremony, which is a response that I rarely hear from grooms. But he was really excited to be married to Megan. Megan and Tim had an unseasonably sunny, warm, and beautiful November day for their wedding. Tim’s highlight, the ceremony, was held at St Stanislaus Church in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. Beautiful light was streaming into the church as Megan was…

Margie and Mike’s Wedding at St Therese of Lisieux
I’ve known Margie for a long time. We used to sit together when we sang in our high school’s chorus group (unlike Margie, I’m not a good singer, unless I’m imitating Bob Dylan or Robert Plant). We had a lot of great friends together in high school and I was honored when she asked me to photograph her wedding last month. Margie and Mike are a great match together, and on their wedding day I got to hear other people tell great stories about them. Like how Margie and her maid-of-honor, Erin made a pact when they were five years old to be the maid of honor for each other’s…
